Meet Our Staff

Cheryl Webb, Executive Director

Start Date: October 1998

Cheryl joined the Adventure Place team in 1998 as the Manager of Early Intervention Services.  Prior to that, she spent 15 years in the child care, education and social service sectors. Cheryl has both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Social Work, from Ryerson University and the University of Toronto, respectively. Cheryl worked in Banff, Alberta for several years, where she began her career in working with children and families, and acquired her enthusiasm for the great outdoors. She enjoys sports, movies and philosophical discussions with friends, and is the owner of two high-spirited Miniature Schnauzers. 

Debbie Modrovsky, Business Manager

Start Date: November 2000

Debbie has worked for Adventure Place since 2000 as the agency's Business Manager.  In this capacity Debbie is responsible for all Financial and Human Resource functions in the agency. Debbie brought 13 years of financial, HR and data management experience to this position from both non-profit and corporate sectors.  Debbie lives in Newmarket with her husband and daughter.  She enjoys cooking, swimming, travelling and spending time with her family and pets in her spare time. 

Pat Balfour, Operations Manager

Start Date: September 1989

Pat has been with Adventure Place since 1989. During this time she has provided guidance, advice and support which has influenced almost every aspect of agency administration. Over the course of her career with the agency she has been exposed to several community development and management opportunities. Prior to joining Adventure Place, Pat gained a cross section of business experience in the fields of banking, advertising and law.

Esther Caplan, Program Manager

Start Date: March 1989

Esther Caplan has over 30 years experience supporting children with special needs and their families. Her career began at the Child Development Institute.  She then went on to work for Family Daycare Services while pursuing her Master’s Degree in Education.

Esther has been with Adventure Place since 1989, initially as a Teacher Therapist in the Day Treatment Program, then as an Early Childhood Specialist in the Early Intervention Program.   She later assumed the role of Early Childhood Specialist Supervisor and served in that capacity for over 10 years. 

In March 2010, Esther was promoted to  Program Manager. She now provides leadership to the Willowdale Ontario Early Years Centre, Better Beginnings Now, Early Intervention Services (Early Childhood Specialists/ Childcare Support Services), Toronto Partnership for Autism Services and Toronto Autism ABA Services.

Dr. Mariana Wainer, Clinical Manager

Start Date: June 2010

Dr. Wainer, a psychologist, accepted the position of Clinical Manager at Adventure Place in June 2010.  She brings over twenty years of experience working with children and families.  Dr. Wainer is originally from Argentina and she focused much of her studies and work experience in the United States.
